Cast or Blown? |
|||||
Stretch film or to give it its common name Palletwrap. This really is an economical way of securing loads and has become one of the most popular packaging items. There are primarily two types of film. Blown and Cast. Blown film is still very popular in the UK although Cast film is almost exclusively used throughout Europe. Blown film feels sticky whilst Cast film feels clingy but not sticky. Which one is best? For Fully or Semi automatic machines, Cast film is better but the hand roll market is different. Our sales are still probably 80-20% in favour of blown |
How Thick? |
|||||
Our stock ranges from 17 to 34 micron. 17 micron is easily the most popular but prices are all pro rata so whatever thickness you buy, you will get the same amount of film for the same amount of money. Again it comes down to personal preference and common sense tells you that if you wrap a pallet 8 times with 17 micron film, you only need to wrap it 4 times with 34 micron. Obviously a thicker film is more pincture resistant and is better if your pallet has sharp corners. |

Dont get caught out! |

Standard rolls are 400 or 500mm wide. The standard roll lengths used to be 300 metres but in an effort to make their product appear cheaper, some Companies now sell mostly 250 metres. This makes for quite a small roll which means it has to be changed more often. We now also keep a 250 metre roll, which we do specifically for one or two customers who need to pay a low unit price. Always check the meterage with your supplier, especially if it is not marked on the box. Lengths and specifications of Palletwrap have been subject to abuse for years. Our material is all made by PIFA registered Companies and as such we will guarantee the specification. If you think you are being supplied with a short length roll, ask us to check it for you. |
